VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITES
Blood
Services
Shuttle Driver - Transport blood from bloodmobile
to Ft. Wayne. Need good driving record, valid driver's license and
proof of insurance.
Office Work - Assist with routine office work;
filing, typing and handle phone calls.
Rescheduler - Reschedule blood donors; check
blood donor cards for gallon recognition and ask them to schedule
for the next time they are eligible. Need pleasant personality,
enjoy working with people, good with details and organized.
Host/Hostess - Greet blood donors and direct
them to the next station. Need to enjoy being around people.
Canteen Host/Hostess/Observer - Greet donor,
serve refreshments, keep area clean and neat. Need to be alert at
all times and enjoy working around people.
Emergency
Services
Disaster Action Team - Assist families affected
by fires and other disasters. Provide immediate assistance such
as food, clothing, shelter and other immediate needs. Must also
participate in state and local disaster drills.
Community Disaster Action Team - Conducts workshops
on disasters, tornadoes, floods, earthquakes, and fires. Keep records
and prepare handouts. Public speaking a must.
Office Work - Assist with fire cases, make
up class packets, general record keeping and office work. Willing
to train and help in military family work and disaster assistance.
Need typing and general office skills, ability to work with diversified
and distraught people.
Disaster Services Human Resources (DSHR) -
Work on national disasters. Need to take training and able to leave
job and family for three week periods. High school education and
able to live/work in adverse conditions.
Disaster Instructors - Teach basic courses.
Must have basic disaster training and instructor courses.
Health
& Safety Services
First Aid/CPR Instructor - Teach community
classes in First Aid and CPR. Must be at least 17, willing to take
Red Cross training, work well with people and have a desire to teach.
Water Safety Instructor - Teach swimming lessons.
Must be 17, willing to take Red Cross training, skilled in swimming,
work well with people of all ages and have a desire to teach. These
classes are taught in partnership with the YMCA and YWCA.
Lifeguarding Instructor - Teach people to become
certified lifeguards. Must be 17, willing to take Red Cross training,
skilled in swimming, work well with people of all ages and have
a desire to teach. These classes are taught in partnership with
the YMCA and YWCA.
Financial
Development
Special Events - In Financial Development events
take place throughout the year. They are varied and very enjoyable
to work. Volunteers are needed to assist with all aspects of the
event such as; planning committees, selling tickets, setup and tear
down, usher people to their seats, help sell food and drinks.
Mailings - Volunteers are needed to assemble,
label and sort bulk mailings throughout the year. An enjoyable time
to visit with old friends and meet new friends.
Administration
Office Work - Assist with routine office work;
filing, typing, work on the computer and handle phone calls.
Receptionist - Answer multi-line phone, transfer,
and take messages as necessary. Hours are Monday - Friday, half
day shifts (8:30am - 12:30pm & 12:30pm - 4:30 pm). One day a
week or serve as a substitute.
