The Hardin County Branch of the American Red Cross has kept busy this summer to help with the increased demand for blood, offering additional blood drives beginning in June with a Day of Action blood drive on June 16 sponsored by the Hardin County United Way.   An Ada Community Blood Drive on July 5 was held with three more blood drives scheduled during the last week of July at the monthly Kenton Moose July 26, Guns & Hoses (friendly competition between fire and law officers) held annually at the Jacob Parrott Safety Center on July 29, and in the Mt. Victory Community on July 31.  As well as St. John’s United Church of Christ in Kenton hosting a drive on August 10.

Thanks to many area sponsors from businesses to individuals, a successful 1st Annual Hardin County Red Cross Golf Scramble was held on Saturday, July 17 at the Veteran’s Memorial Park Golf Course.  Next year’s date has been set for Saturday, July 23, 2011 so please mark your calendar now to participate for a great cause.  Funds raised are used to help Hardin County victims of a house fire or other disaster with food, clothing and shelter.

2010 Winners: Rex Good, Brandon Maag, Brandon Cornell, Justin Krock

Grants from several local organizations were awarded this Spring to the Hardin County Red Cross: A Kenton Walmart grant toward the purchase of needed swim supplies for the swim program and CPR/first aid supplies for our new Hardin County Workplace Instructor, Daryl Flowers along with other educational materials and handouts.  A Mid-Ohio Energy grant allowed for the purchase of a much needed computer and software for the Red Cross office, and the Hardin County Community Foundation grant to stage two more shelters in Hardin County with needed shelter start up supplies and cots/blankets. The Columbus Blood Region gave a Communications award for submitting articles to the local media over the past year to educate communities on all services of the Red Cross.

The Hardin County Red Cross will have a booth in the Merchant’s Building at the Hardin County Fair, so please stop by and talk with our advisory board.

This Fall, Disaster Action Team (DAT) classes are being planned to train volunteers in the community to respond to fire calls and other disasters.  If you are interested in this FREE training, please contact the Hardin County office at 419-674-2295.

On November 27th, the annual Hardin County Red Cross Pancake and Whole Hog Sausage Breakfast will be held at the Kenton Moose from 7:30am-11:30am.  It’s a great way to start your day by supporting the Red Cross and having breakfast before going to Christmas Around the Square and other holiday season kick-off events in Hardin County.
