Blood Services

The American Red Cross mission is to help people prevent, prepare for and cope with emergency situations. The Blood Services branch of the organization fulfills this mission thanks to the support of healthy volunteer blood donors who give for those in need.

The need for blood is great and continuous. On any given day, approximately 32,000 units of red blood cells are needed in the U.S. It is estimated that every two seconds, someone needs blood.

The human body has 10-12 pints of blood...we only need one! Your body replaces the lost fluid within 24 hours. Drinking plenty of fluids before and after donation helps your body recover faster.

Your blood donation is separated into three components: red blood cells, platelets and plasma. This means your single donation can save up to three lives! Locally, Lima Memorial Hospital, St. Rita's Medical Center and Blanchard Valley Regional Health Center in Bluffton depend on the American Red Cross for all their red cells, platelets and plasma needs.
