We now have a firmly established American Red Cross Unit, in Auglaize County, providing a full range of Red Cross services, while engaging as a recognized partner to all of the other service organizations of the county.

Over the course of this summer, we have remained busy with ongoing training and continued participation for disaster services. Highlights of theses services/trainings are as follows:

• Director Bryan provides presentations for public awareness, offering opportunity for questions and answers throughout the year, with late spring and summer of 2009 offering opportunity to present to Wapakoneta Chamber of Commerce, Women in Business Association, Noon Optimist, Breakfast Optimist and Council of Agencies.
  
  
• On June 20, 2009, Red Cross – Auglaize County Disaster Action Team Volunteers and Director Bryan participated in a full scale Emergency Management Exercise. As a vital partner in this exercise, the Red Cross provided a mock shelter simulation; we are pleased to report that this activity was recognized by the Ohio State Emergency Management Department, as meeting and exceeding performance requirements.
  
• Red Cross – Auglaize County Disaster Action Team Volunteers assisted two families, of Auglaize County, displaced from their homes due to fire. Temporary shelter and funds for meeting the families’ short-term clothing and food needs were provided, which allowed them relief and time to seek long-term housing, while reestablishing their day-to-day amenities. We are very pleased to be in place, as first responders when disaster hits, and we are especially pleased to have established excellent partnerships with other human service organizations of Auglaize County to refer our clients for further assistance.

• We are happy to announce that the American Red Cross of Auglaize County has received, via a grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation, a new Disaster Response Trailer. This is one of three donated to the American Red Cross local service area of Auglaize, Allen and Hardin Counties.

• On Tuesday, August 11, 2009, the Auglaize County Commissioners and DaNeen Bryan, Director of American Red Cross – Auglaize County Unit took delivery from Roger Fessler, Director of American Red Cross Disaster Services for Auglaize/Allen/Hardin Counties a 6x12, Dual Axle HAULMARK Trailer filled with the necessary supplies to set-up an emergency shelter with 100 Cots, 10 Jumbo Cots, 120 Comfort Kits, 100 Bedding Kits, 3-5 Gal. Liquid Cambros, 3 Hot or Cold Cambros, 1 Case Hot or Cold Cups, one 100 Qt. Cooler.

The American Red Cross of Auglaize County’s Disaster Action Team Members hold monthly meetings offering an opportunity for local residents, interested in becoming Red Cross Volunteers, to learn more about our local services; and, for added convenience, these meetings are held at the Fire Departments throughout the County. All meetings and special events of The American Red Cross –Auglaize County Unit are posted on the local cable networks and in the Wapakoneta Daily News and St. Mary’s The Evening Leader.
